For many survivors, privacy is one of the biggest concerns when deciding whether to seek support. You may wonder:
Who will see my information?
Will anyone know I reached out?
Can I explore my options without making a report?
What happens to the information I share?
These are important questions.
At Hazel, privacy and survivor choice are central to the platform’s purpose.
Privacy is about more than confidentiality.
For survivors, privacy can also be connected to safety, trust, and control.
After experiencing trauma, someone may feel that important choices were taken away from them. Having control over personal information can be one way of restoring some of that choice.
At Hazel powered by DaneMAC, we believe survivors should have the opportunity to decide when, how, and with whom they share their experiences.
You Control What You Share
Hazel is designed to put survivors in control of their information.
You decide:
- What information to provide
- What details to document
- What services to explore
- When to seek additional support
- Which participating providers you want to connect with
You do not have to share every detail immediately.
A Private Place to Explore Options
Some survivors may not be ready to report or pursue formal legal processes.
That does not mean they should be without support.
Hazel allows survivors to explore available resources, including forensic nursing, medical care, advocacy, counseling, and other services, while taking time to understand their choices.
Before using any service, survivors should review its privacy and confidentiality policies so they understand what information may be collected, stored, or shared and under what circumstances.
Secure Documentation
Hazel also provides a place to document information related to an experience. Depending on the platform’s current features, this may include:
- Personal notes
- Timelines
- Screenshots
- Photographs
- Messages
- Other relevant documents
Documentation is optional.
You decide whether it is useful for you.
Privacy Supports Choice
Fear about privacy can prevent people from seeking support.
A survivor may avoid reaching out because they are concerned about who will find out or what might happen to their information.
Hazel’s goal is to reduce some of those barriers by giving survivors a place to explore resources without unnecessary pressure.
Support Without Pressure
Creating a Hazel account does not mean you have to use a particular service.
You do not have to pursue legal action simply because you created an account. You can explore resources, ask questions, and decide what you want to do next.
The Hazel brief describes the platform as a secure and private starting point for survivors who want to explore their options.
Your Story Belongs to You
Your experience is personal.
You deserve dignity and respect when seeking help.
At Hazel, we believe survivors should have control over when they share their story, how they share it, and who they share it with.
The platform was created to help survivors access support while maintaining control over their information and choices.
